Drop Off:
As the students arrive, they will start the day off by tracing their names and the letter, number, shape, color or sight word that we are focusing on that day. As soon as this is done, they will join the beginning activity. These activities will be aimed at helping your child to develop the fine motor skills they will need for writing, as well as to encourage social interactions. For example, one day we might do a short scavenger hunt where they work as a team to find numbers, trace them, and then put them in order.
Circle Time:
After cleaning up the beginning activity, the children will each choose a shape to sit on in the circle. We will review our calendar, days of the week, months of the year, weather, patterning, review, pledge of allegiance, sight words and a story. We will also study one letter, number or shape.
Table Time:
We will do a project that relates to the monthly theme. We may cut with scissors, paint, color, use markers, glue and learn to follow instructions. This is such a fun part of the day as the children get very creative and are so proud of their finished work. If time for drying is needed, the project will be sent home the next time we meet. Otherwise this project will be sent home the same day.
Book Time:
After finishing the project, each child can choose any book to look at. This gives other children a chance to finish and also helps each child develop a love of reading. After individual book time, I will read a story to the class.
Recess:
During warm weather, the children will play outside in the backyard. During cold weather, they will play inside. A variety of outside and inside toys will be provided for individual play, as well as games and activities for group play.
Snack Time:
After washing our hands we will have a snack. If your child has any food allergies, please be sure to note them on the registration form.
Circle Time:
After book time, we will do mini activities that correlate with the theme and reinforce the letters, numbers and/or shapes we’ve been learning. During this second circle time the things we've been learning will also be reinforced through singing time. We will have lots of fun marching, skipping and learning actions to our favorite songs.
Show 'N Tell:
Each child will have multiple turns being my "Show 'N Tell Helper". They will be sent home with a special bag and a show 'n tell paper on which they will list three clues to help the class guess their show 'n tell item.
Schedule:
We will follow Murray School District’s calendar of holidays and days off. We will also have the same Spring Break as Murray School District. I will remind you of days off in my monthly letter.
Holidays:
We will celebrate holidays in our class. We will tie in learning with fun games and a special snack.
Birthdays:
On your child’s birthday we will sing to them and they will receive a small birthday surprise.
Backpack:
While not required, it is fun for children to have a backpack to use. The regular sized ones work great because they have plenty of room for the children to put their artwork.
